Frequently Asked Questions

Fuel Injector FAQ

Q: My injector is leaking externally from the seam in the housing, can it be rebuilt?

A: No. If the injector has a body leak it must be replaced. Fuel leakage is very dangerous. If 2 or more injectors are leaking Externally from the body, and they were not damaged by removal, the entire set should be replaced.

Q: I will not be able to install my injectors for a couple of months. Should I have you service them now?

A: Fuel injectors do have a shelf life. We would recommend waiting three or four weeks to get the service completed.

Q: I have 6 injectors and I have been told that 3 are electrically bad, should I rebuild the other 3?

A: If they have really failed electronically, which is rare. You could rebuild the other 3, but it is our policy to recommend replacing the entire set for matched performance. If 50% or more of the injectors are bad, for any reason, the set should be replaced.

Q: I know my injectors need to be serviced but don't want to wait. So I am thinking of purchasing rebuilt ones to Save time?

A: It is always best to rebuild your injectors when possible. If not, know the source.

Q: Can you really repair my injectors by cleaning them?

A: Yes. Almost all injector related problems occur slowly over time, from debris and contamination. They simply get dirty.

Q: I have had my injectors cleaned on the car, they seemed OK for a short time. Now they have failed again.

A: This is a very common occurrence with on car methods. They usually use a very caustic cleaner forced thru the fuel system. It does remove some debris, but deposits some at the injector pintle (tip). Once those deposits harden, the performance is again decreased. Usually more severe. In other cases, moisture in the fuel lines or rails can cause rust that will also clog injectors over and over. Lastly, failure to replace a fuel filter can also re-contaminate injects if dirt and/or debris breaks through the filtration materials.

Q: I have 2 injectors that I know are bad and they are easy to remove. Can I have just those 2 serviced by CPR ?

A: No. It is our policy to service injectors in sets only. The reason, if one or more injectors have failed the others are not far behind. It is also very common for this practice to create a new problem, when you service only a percentage of the injectors they will flow at different rates. The powertrain control module (PCM) adjusts for the average of the set.

Q: I am rebuilding my engine, it ran great before it blew up. Do I really need to have my injectors serviced?

A: Depends on why the engine failed to begin with. In the event of a total overhaul, it is very cheap insurance to have all the injectors serviced to make sure you are not transplanting an issue back to the newly rebuilt engine (that could cause the original problem to happen again or a new one to develop).

Q: Why should I use you to service my injectors? Why is the CPR different from anyone else?

A: Simply put, this is what CPR specializes in; fuel delivery. We have worked very hard to develop a system that works and our products and services are top class. CPR uses a number of special pieces of equipment (developed by us), to guarantee excellent results. The cleaning agent we use is unique; it is our own product.

Q: Why do you use the term "serviced" when others say rebuilt?

A: We believe in calling it what it is. Serviced. We are not mechanically disassembling your injector (nor is anybody else) or changing any of its internal parts.

Q: Do you blueprint injectors?

A: Yes. In fact, all injectors we service are cleaned as sets, tested as sets and compared to each other in the set. When Completed they must all perform the same and you will get a flow data sheet.

Q: Can you or do you adjust the volume of each injector to the others in the set?

A: No. Nor can anyone else. After cleaning and testing if one or more injector's do not perform the same, they must be replaced else you run the risk of power loss, emissions issues and generally bad engine performance (such as poor fuel economy and degraded acceleration)

Q: What if I send you my injectors and you find one that must be replaced?

A: If we have a replacement used core in stock and you approve it, we can (at a reasonable cost) replace the bad injector. (This will obviously need to be handled on a case by case basis) It will then be serviced with your set and must match your set. If we do not have a core injector that meets this criteria, we will suggest a new injector.

Q: What do I need to do to get my injectors flowed/tested?

A:  Click here for full details on how to do this.
